About the Event

As artists we often get stuck in self-criticism, perfectionism or repetition of what has worked for us in the past. We yearn to show more of ourselves in our art, but are afraid or don’t know how. In this talk Gabriela will share her own experiences with fear, and how moving past it into bold self-expression is a conscious commitment to experimentation and risk-taking as well as an ongoing practice. There will be some mark-making exercises to explore techniques that help loosen us up and activate the painting surface, but this is not a workshop on painting technique. Attendees will learn how regular art practice, self-reflection, experimentation and stepping out of our comfort zone can make our work so much more real and satisfying.
